The original gauge cluster was built using the same problematic components as the climate control unit, radio, and amplifiers. These components will leak out electrolytic acid with age, causing corrosion. Corrosion caused by the acid can lead to damage to the circuit board and other sensitive electrical components that are now obsolete and can not be replaced. The damage to the traces on the circuit board can also lead to fire, which has occurred to a number of NSX.
Several symptoms, described below, are evidence that corrosion damage is already affecting the cluster. Because all NSX instrument clusters will experience this damage caused by age, it's imperative to repair the clusters before these symptoms occur. By repairing the cluster before damage occurs, you limit the chance that the damage will render the cluster unrepairable.
